The best beaches that the Rías Baixas region has to offer are less than 30km away. There are beaches that offer something for everyone: small coves, long sandy beaches, natural beaches, beaches with a more urban feel, accessible beaches, nudist beaches and of course Blue Flag beaches.The borough even offers freshwater beaches including the fluvial beach in Pontevedra situated on the river Lérez and the Verdugo River beach in Ponte Sampaio.
Mogor Beach
If you stay in the city you can take advantage of one of the many beaches along the estuary on both its north and south side. The beaches of Poio are only 5km away while those situated in Marín are 8km away. If you do not have your own vehicle, you can get one of two lines at Pontevedra’s bus station with departures every 30m (approx) that run along both sides of the estuary with stops at the most important beaches.

Just 5km away are the beaches of Poio, including Lourido, Campelo, Chancelas, Covelo and Laño. Further along the coast, in the municipality of Sanxenxo, one of the first beaches that you’ll come across is Areas, about 15km from Pontevedra.
In this municipality, there are many beaches to choose from such as Silgar, Canelas, Foxos or Montalvo, among many others. On the route towards O Grove you’ll find the A Lanzada beach, spanning almost 3km and boasting an impressive archaeological site and a small chapel on the seashore.

Swimming in the Atlantic
On the other side of the estuary, about 8 km from the city, you’ll find Marin’s beaches, among which the beaches of Portocelo, Mogor, Aguete and Loira stand out. Then, about 15km away we find the first beaches of Bueu, an example of these, the sandy areas of Lapamán or Portomaior, and a little further away Lagos or Tuia.
Area Brava Beach, Aldán
The beaches of Rodeira, Melide, Menduiña or Nerga, in Cangas do Morrazo, are about 25 km from Pontevedra’s city centre.
