Its old Roman remains, “Ponte Veteri” gave the city its name. This infrastructure is a symbol of the city and is part of its coat of arms. The oldest clue in reference to the Roman past of this bridge is Hadrian’s milestone, dated 134, used to give continuity to the XIX road. The deterioration of this bridge would have given way to its new construction in the 12th century.

The bridge of El Burgo underwent many changes throughout its history. Although it currently has eleven semicircular arches, excavations carried out in 2006 uncovered another four arches that were buried underground.[/vc_column_text]

[vc_raw_html]JTNDdmlkZW8lMjBpZCUzRCUyMnZpbWVvJTIyJTIwYXV0b3BsYXklM0QlMjJhdXRvcGxheSUyMiUyMGxvb3AlM0QlMjJsb29wJTIyJTIwbXV0ZWQlM0QlMjIlMjIlM0UlMEElM0Nzb3VyY2UlMjBzcmMlM0QlMjJodHRwcyUzQSUyRiUyRnBsYXllci52aW1lby5jb20lMkZleHRlcm5hbCUyRjUzNTc0MjA2Ny5oZC5tcDQlM0ZzJTNEYTM2OGNiN2RhZDcxZTNkNGZmYzEyMjAwMWZkMmQ1ZDI5ZDQyMjMzNCUyNmFtcCUzQnByb2ZpbGVfaWQlM0QxNzUlMjIlMjB0eXBlJTNEJTIydmlkZW8lMkZtcDQlMjIlMjAlMkYlM0UlMEElM0MlMkZ2aWRlbyUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text el_class=”leyenda-foto”]Illumination of the Burgo Bridge[/vc_column_text]

[vc_column_text font_family=”Gilroy”]Since the 16th century there have been several reforms, due among other things to the deterioration of the bridge and a great flood that almost swept it away, it also widened in the mid-20th century, giving rise to its current appearance. The latest reform has turned the Burgo bridge into a pedestrian bridge for the enjoyment of pedestrians and cyclists. Its lighting includes a set of LED lights that illuminate the section of the Camino de Santiago, in addition to the play of lights that enhance its arches.
