Text : This is the main theater of the city, it it situated in the old part of the city. This allows a cultural and social interaction that is not always possible. It was built in 1842, over the remains of the old church of San Bartolomé, and restored after a serious fire. The theater, built by Ramón Miyer Caridad, was opened in 1997, after winning the Anteproyectos contest in 1985. The building is composed of 5 floors and 2 basements. The facade, with ample windows, preserves the traditional pediment. It also has 2 exhibition rooms, as well as a conference hall with space for 434 people, which constitute the main spaces of the building. The stage, of 52 square meters, has a mobile platform. Besides, a false ceiling improves the acoustics and the capacity of the light to enter in the building. Talking about decoration, the building has a mixture of 2 styles: the 19th century style and the modern decoration style. There are no gold or Baroque details, since the architect tried to achieve a 19th century style building, without resorting to simple details. The doors and the decoration assure the acoustics. The Teatro Principal has a rich cultural offer throughout the year , formed by stage plays, concerts, etc.
