Text : According to the legend, the Greek archer Teucro, half-brother of Ajax, travelled to the West after the war of Troy and founded the city of Pontevedra. The Renaissance elite of the city encouraged this myth to give prestige to the city . In this square, one of the most beautiful of Pontevedra, you can observe different interesting buildings, like the Pazo de los Gago y Montenegro and, opposite to it, the Pazo del Conde de San Román. At the end of the square, next to the calle Real is the old building of Aranda and Guimarei. This square was one of the most stately of the city, and even today it preserves part of the noble houses that surrounded it, as well as some good examples of the heraldic wealth of Pontevedra. The most outstanding shield is the one of the Gago and Montenegro’s house, a wonderful example of the Galician Baroque, made in the 16th century. The streets near the square are one of the most popular to eat and to have tapas.
